Maynooth Castle
Located at the main gate of the south campus, this 13th Century castle was the seat of the
Cambro-Norman FitzGerald family, who were granted lands in the area following the Norman invasion of Ireland.
During the summer there are free guided tours of the castle.
Castletown House
Castletown House was built in 1722 and is a fine example of a Palladian country house,
an architectural style derived from the work of the 16th century Venetian architect, Andrea Palladio.
The grounds and house are open to the public and are a short bus ride on the C4 from Maynooth to Dublin.
Carton House & Demesne
For 200 years, the Carton Demesne represented the finest example in Ireland of a Georgian-created parkland
landscape. It is now the site of a luxury hotel and several golf courses.
The demesne and hotel are open to the public and are a short bus ride on the C3 from Maynooth to Dublin.
Royal Canal Greenway
The Royal Canal Greenway spans 130 kilometres of flat towpath, offering an ideal route for walkers,
runners and cyclists of all ages and abilities. Starting in the town of Maynooth,
the Greenway follows the historic 200-year-old Royal Canal through the towns of Kilcock, Enfield, Mullingar,
ultimately reaching the village of Cloondara in Longford, where it terminates at the River Shannon.
